How to DIY a Minimalist Wreath

Don’t feel like making a trip to the craft store? No problem! Triangle wreaths are extremely easy to make, and the best part is that most of the materials can be found in your own backyard. Who says you can’t use dead plants from your garden for home decor? In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using what you already have to create something new. Here is my step-by-step guide to making your very own triangle wreath:

Step 1: Find your materials

Obviously, finding scissors and wire in your backyard might be a little difficult, but odds are that you have most of these materials lying around the house.

The pandemic has forced me to become quite resourceful when it comes to home décor, and my garden provided the perfect materials for my triangle wreath; yes, even during a Michigan winter.

Part of the reason that triangle branch wreaths, or minimalist wreaths, are so easy to make is because they don’t require a lot of greenery, or filler, to make them look complete. Typical wreaths are big and bushy, but with a simple triangle wreath all you need are a few stems of differently textured greens.

If you can’t find what you need in your own backyard, don’t panic! Just go for a walk around your neighborhood. Odds are, you’ll find plenty of materials that you can use. Not that I’m condoning trespassing, but your neighbors may have compost materials on their curb waiting to be collected that would work perfectly for your triangle wreath. Their trash is your treasure. Public areas such as parks are fair game as well!

If you do feel like venturing out to the craft store, there are thousands of faux greens out there that will fit any style. I don’t necessarily consider triangle wreaths to be Christmassy, but choosing a sprig with berries, or small pinecones, is a great way to give the wreath some holiday flair.

Step 2: Assemble!

Once you’ve gathered all of your materials, it’s time to start building your triangle wreath. Start by tying your string or ribbon to each end of your sturdy branch. Make sure there is enough room to display your greenery while it is hanging. Next, bundle your collected (or purchased) greenery, and tie it together with a wire. Tuck the stems into your string or ribbon knot on one side of your branch. Finally. Secure your greenery to the branch with tightly wrapped wire, and voila, you’ve got a wreath!

Home décor doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. You can craft a perfectly trendy piece out of materials you already have. You’d be surprised how many useful things you can find laying around the house or backyard.

If you’re like me, once you’ve successfully made one triangle wreath, you’ll want to make one for every door and wall in your house, or maybe even as gifts!

Step 3: Hang

Now it’s time to show off that beautiful triangle wreath!

I hung one wreath outside and kept one inside!
